Not bad for a self proclaimed amateur. My dad (John) and mom (Rose, nee Rocchio) were both born in Gallo in the early 20's. We all were there this past June. What a wonderful town, and the view of Gallo from Letino was magnificant. Did you know there is an enclave of Gallesi in Weirton, West Virginia, and we (they) are not HILLBILLIES? Many of us 3rd generation have relocated to other states. I will get names from my family--maybe we are all cousins. Is your left leg shorter than the right and do you have extraordinary lung capacity? My father used to joke that those were inherited traits from walking mountain paths and breathing air at high altitude. Gallo is beautiful and perhaps we should keep it secret from the world. We are just as proud as you to be part of that culture. I can now share this site with my many relatives here in New York. For me its like a burning desire, a yearning to know as much as I can about my heritage and about those who came before me and after me. Its that connection that binds us together like family. about our native town, Gallo Matese. I believe
that this is the ultimate way that brings and

I read you editorial about that show (I shall not and will not ever mention it) on HBO (produced by an Italian American by the way) and, much to my chagrin, I fully agree with it since it depicts and transforms and in the most despicable fashion, as you very well put it, what Italians, all Italians, never were and never will be, criminals and gangsters. I can only imagine if the characters were to be not only African-Americans, but any other ethnic group... ! I'm sure there would be an uproar and the show would have to be shelved immediately. Italians however, thanks to Hollywood and to the general "menefreghismo", have always been subjucated and confined to roles of criminals, gangsters, thieves, etc. Rarely we have been portrayed as what we really are: a people of poets, navigators, scientists, researchers, doctors, politicians, regular (and honest) working people... This image would not sell. Hollywood needs criminals ang gangsters, and who is better than those "dumb Italians". They make me nostalgic of the old days when I lived in Gallo. I found the many links quite interesting, especially the ones about the NYC sport teams. Not to talk about the directions to get to Gallo from Fiumicino, that was a brilliant idea. I am sure that many people of Gallese extraction will find it helpful when traveling to Gallo and I am certain that they appreciate it. Do you have room for more pictures? I will send you a few.
